New Zealand - Milford Track Gear Load Out Preparation

New Zealand - Milford Track Gear Load Out Preparation Video Clips. Duration : 21.42 Mins.

In this video I breakout my gear I took on the four day Milford Track hike. Total pack weight without food, fuel and water was 15-16 lbs. This included appropriate clothing to deal with wet and possible snow conditions on the mountain pass. Total weight with food, fuel and water is 25-27 lbs for four days totally self-supported hiking in all weather down to below freezing conditions. If you are looking to lighten your load, this video may give you some ideas on gear to consider. If you are looking to walk the Milford Track, this gear list will be a great way to not overpack so you can enjoy more of the hike and less time agonizing under a heavy pack! The gear here was everything I needed on the track to be comfortable and not overburdened. Keep in mind that if you are hiking the Milford (or other New Zealand Great Walks) in-season the huts are supplied with stoves and propane fuel so you won't need to bring a stove the way I did so you can lighten up even more!
